Running my regular dirt path route, it was common for birds to take flight, but a little green beauty sat still, too still. I do not need to be an ornithologist or veterinarian to know it was injured. I walked quickly to a nearby condo building searching in the garbage for anything to transport the bird. Toting a huge box three kilometers and contemplating keeping my new friend, my bestie sent me to the Toronto Wildlife Centre. However sad the outcome, I discovered a safe refuge in the city and a worthy cause. This candle is dedicated to my mini-feathered forever friend.
